HRT Risks

Approximately 2% of women experiencing symptoms of Menopause, PMS, and Pre-Menopause will need some form of HRT to control their symptoms.

With such a small percentage of women needing HRT Therapy, why then are the pharmaceutical companies making over $2.6 billion a year on HRT and why are we taken unnecessary risks?

Progesterone is the missing link in hormone imbalance and does not carry the risks associate with HRT. The most publicized study regarding HRT was the Women’s Initiative Health Study conducted in 1997. The study was scheduled to be completed in 2005 however, half way through the study in 2002 the study was halted due to the health risks associated with Prempro (Estrogen/Progestin). In 2004 the National Institute of Health advised women in the Estrogen-only study to stop taking their pills. The Estrogen-only study was stopped when it showed not to decrease heart disease but rather increase the risk of stroke. The Estrogen/Progestin study suggested that long term HRT use contributed to an increase in heart disease and breast cancer. Many women believe that they must use HRT to prevent osteoporosis. HRT therapy only prevents bone loss, it does not increase bone growth, as natural progesterone does, according to the studies conducted by Dr. John Lee.

Is there any reason that a women must be on HRT? That is a question that can only be answered by each individual woman. However, make your decision wisely, and you may find that natural progesterone is the better choice for you.
